Watchers

Not sure why people are still adding me to their deviant watch, seeing as I don't even post anything here anymore, let alone log in. The logic of that really escapes me.

To each their own, I guess. Their decision if they want to clog their watch list with empty accounts.

Thanks for visiting!

Have you tried using pencils of different hardness and softness? It'll really help to develop your drawing skills. I also suggest drawing from photographs. I find it really helps me get proportions correct.

Lol...I used to draw more, then I gave up...and a friend of mine encouraged me to try again. I just find that I really don't have the patience to sit down and practice. Writing is more my thing, to be honest. :)

Also, your work is pretty great; I like your jewelery and your drawings are lovely. I just don't comment very much.

I understand the lack of patience. I used to be the same way. But I found that take a 15 minutes a day to work on a piece really helped me deal with my stress. Sometimes I'll work on one piece for a few days at time, 15 minutes each day. When I walk away from a piece and come back later I see things I didn't see before. I suggest getting a book to teach you about proportions. I had a hard time with it for years! Though I would strongly recommend drawing a still life. That way you can train your eyes to draw what you see, not what you know is there. Only the lines that exist. Does that make sense? Damn, I wish I could explain this in person. I tutor people in drawings on a regular basis. It's easier in person.

I understand the whole commenting thing. Sometimes you just like a piece and don't know how to explain it. You just like it. LOL

I think I would be more willing to sit down and actually do it if I had someone in person encouraging me, lol. In person can be a lot easier in those sorts of ways..especially for showing and explaining.

I don't have a lot of confidence in my drawing abilities at all, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist too, which doesn't help at all, haha.

Maybe I will try my hand at it again someday...a book might actually help a lot. I took three art classes in high school, and that seemed to help as well, but after that, I gave up...Heh. The portraits I have up now is from my friend trying to convince me to try again...which was actually months ago.

You can find drawing books really cheap on amazon.com It's where I get most of my books. Dont' get the anime/manga drawing books. They teach only a specific style. I suggest learning realism first so you can learn proportions, poses, and expressions. From there you can learn to stylize.

I also suggest looking into the Japanese practice of 'wabi-sabi'. You'll know why once you look into it. It's a philosophy I live by: the celebration of imperfection.
